It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our much-loved Founder and Chairman, Manuel Mira, who passed away on 8/17/17. He was 83.
Mira started TekTone in 1973 with 4 employees as a residential and commercial intercommunications business in Lake Park, FL. Since that time, the company has grown rapidly to serve the intercommunication market both nationally and internationally. In 1989, TekTone opened a manufacturing facility in Franklin, North Carolina. In 1998, TekTone constructed a vast research and development department in Franklin, and in 2001 relocated all operations to Franklin. Just recently, TekTone purchased a 72,262-square-foot facility in the same industrial park and moved all operations under one roof.
As markets changed, Mira made an executive decision to enter the healthcare marketplace since that area was showing more growth and stability. There is no doubt that was the right decision as TekTone’s healthcare systems are now the driving force behind the company employing over 85.
Being a key player in the nurse call system market and doing business on 5 continents, the company owes its success to Mira and he will be truly missed.
The thoughts of TekTone’s customers, management and employees are with Mr. Mira’s wife and family.
