For the fourth year in a row, TekTone Sound & Signal Mfg. Inc. was recognized for outstanding safety and health efforts by the North Carolina Department of Labor.

TekTone’s Compliance and Training Manager, Betty Smith, received the Third Consecutive Year Gold Safety award for TekTone from NCDOL Labor Commissioner, Josh Dobson. This year brings the total number of Safety Awards TekTone has received to four.

“I would like to congratulate everyone at TekTone for receiving a Third Year Gold Safety Award from NCDOL for 2023. We are beyond appreciative of our employees who have been committed to improving our safety culture. When it comes to keeping each other safe, it’s one for all and all for one.

We look forward to upholding these safety values and bringing home another safety award for 2024,” said Betty Smith.

To qualify for an annual safety award, an organization must meet the following criteria:

• Have no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given; AND
• Have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the average for its particular industry group.

There are two Safety Award levels, Gold and Silver. According to labor.nc.gov, “The Gold Award is based on the days away, restricted, transferred (DART) rate, which includes cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer” and “The Silver Award is based only on cases with days away from work. They are recorded when the worker misses at least one full day of work, not including the day of the injury.” A formula is used to compute the incident rate of the organization which is then compared to a table that “lists the incidence rate calculated to 50 percent for each industry group.”
